Tree of Life: The Great Pillars 

Victory, Glory and Foundation are the lower, psychological counterparts of the higher, spiritual principles of Mercy, Judgment and Beauty. The latter, in turn, are the spiritual counterparts or manifestations of Wisdom, Intelligence and Power. 

Mercy is also known as Compassion and includes Generosity. It is associated with freedom. Judgment is the same as Perception but is also known as Severity, Strength, Rigour, Righteousness and Justice. It is associated with discipline. Both mercy and judgment, or freedom and discipline, are needed in balance with each other. The generosity of mercy can be indulgent, self-defeating, blind and powerless without the strength given it by clear judgment and right discipline. Judgment, on the other hand, can be cold, harsh and altogether too severe without the warmth and generosity of compassion. Heart and mind need to act together in harmony, and then beauty ensues. Beauty lies at the centre of the Tree of Life and signifies the manifest heart of God, the balance and harmony point of all things. 


This balancing of the opposites is represented by what are known as the Great Pillars, signified by the three verti cal lines of the Tree of Life. The right-hand pillar is headed by Wisdom, the creative Light, symbolised by the Sun as the giver of light and with Mercy being known as the right hand of God. The left-hand pillar is headed by Intelligence, the sensiti ve Mind, symbolised by the Moon as the receiver and reflector of light and with Judgment being known as the left hand of God. The middle pillar is crowned by the Crown, with Beauty at its centre, symbolised by the Star of David. 




As the giver of light, symbolised by the Sun, the right-hand pillar is called the ‘pillar of fire’; whilst the left-hand pillar as the receiver of light, symbolised by the Moon, is known as the 'pillar of water’. The former is represented by the upward-pointing equilateral triangle, the latter by the downward-pointing equilateral triangle. Their balance, harmony and union is signified by Solomon’s Seal, which produces the ‘fi re-water’ or ‘ether’ of perfect, revealed Light, symbolised by the Star of David (the Christ Star).

The Messianic Seal of Jerusalem's Star of David

Messianic Seal of Jerusalem is a symbol for Messianic Judaism and Christians. The symbol is seen as a depiction of the Menorah, an ancient Jewish symbol, together with the Ichthys, an ancient depictive representation of Christian faith and the community of Jesus followers, creating a Star of David at the intersection. The Messianic Seal is not the only symbol of Messianic Judaism, which has other graphical representations such as the Menorah and Star of David, the cross in the Star of David, among others.

The Star of David as a Protective Symbol against Evil Spirits

Legend has it that the emblem was used by the Biblical King David (hence the name Magen David, or “shield of David”). Star of David = Star of Jesus Christ

The Star of David is made up of two equilateral triangles. One triangle is pointing down, and the other triangle is pointing up. The triangle that is pointing down is God's triangle and represents the Trinity of Soul, Body, and Spirit; or God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit of God reaching down to mankind. The "sign"/icon/symbol for the Messiah, the Greatest King, or King of Kings; who would come from the lineage of David, who would be fully God and also fully man throughout eternity can only be Jesus the Christ - the God/Man. Star of David Considered a Violation of the Separation between Church and State

Criticized last year by Irv Sutley, a local atheist and activist, Rohnert Park in California will be dropping a religious town seal in favor of something that is not only secular, but also does more to represent what the local area is all about. The town council will also stop having prayers before every meeting.

The Press Democrat reports:

[T]he old seal blurred the line between church and state by depicting a six-pointed star that resembles the Star of David, along with a church and tiny cross. To avoid a lawsuit, city officials agreed to redesign the seal by the end of this year and stop using the old one by 2005. Council members also agreed to stop opening their meetings with a prayer invocation, another of Sutley's objections.    

Unlike a city logo, which can change every four or five years, cities register their official seal with the state. It's stamped on City Council resolutions, contracts and municipal building plaques. The seal is on the patches of public safety officers' uniforms and on the side of some vehicles.

All of this occurred with, apparently, little rancor and few problems. When people are willing to face up to the issues involved, there don't need to be any drawn-out court cases or community conflict. It is possible for atheists to make a difference, ensuring that the separation of church and state is preserved.
